In Irish mythology, Lírs' four children, Fionnuala, Aodh, Conn and Fiachra were transformed into swans by their jealous stepmother, Aoife. Cursed to wander Irelands' water for 900 years, they kept their human voices, singing so beautifully, it healed sorrow.
When Christianity came to Ireland, the spell was broken, but they aged instantly, were baptised and died peacefully. Allihies in West Cork has been long associated with their final resting place.
A timeless tale of endurance, transformation and the power of song.
