Ogham is the earliest form of the Irish language. An early medeival alphabet used mainly in Ireland around the 4th - 7th centuary.

It consistd of straight lines and notches with 20 main letters, reads from the bottom to the top or left to right.

There are riughly 400 surviving inscriptions on stone monuments throughout zireland, the bulk are in the province of Munster.

Cross stich on black aida with báinín coloured cotton thread in black 13" (h) x 8" (w) frame with mount. Wall hanging.
